Important notice for our business partners!

Allow us to inform you about a new legal obligation that comes into force right before Christmas, regardless of ongoing Christmas preparations.

Unfortunately, this law applies to all our business partners who do business with us, and therefore we feel it is our duty to inform you about this law. We believe that the information we give you in this form will be beneficial for you.

From December 13, 2024, the new Regulation of the European Parliament and the Council (EU) 2023/988 on general product safety applies. This regulation emphasizes the safety of products and requires that only such products are placed on the market that do not endanger consumers.

For you as a seller, this means the need to add key information about the products. To make it as easy as possible for you, we have prepared an Excel table in which we have clearly entered data on all our products and their suppliers. It is now mandatory to display this information on your e-shop or to have it available in your brick-and-mortar store.

What does our Excel spreadsheet contain?

  • Overview of mandatory data on products and suppliers required by the regulation.

  • The possibility of using this information for individual items of the assortment supplied by us.

What should the entry look like on the e-shop? At least the following information should be displayed for each product:

  • Name of manufacturer or supplier

  • Product origin

  • Contact information - address of the supplier

  • Contact email

  • Information on safe use (if applicable)

What does that mean for you?

The GPSR (General Product Safety Regulation) has a major impact on Slovak traders, especially in the following areas:

1. Increased requirements for product safety

  • It brings the obligation for Czech traders to ensure that the products put on the market are safe and meet the GPSR requirements. This includes improving testing and risk analyses.

2. Product traceability

  • Merchants will have to keep supply chain information (suppliers and customers) for a minimum of 6 years.

3. Clear labeling of products

  • Products must be provided with information about the manufacturer, importer and their contacts, as well as instructions for safe use in the Slovak language.

4. Obligations for online sales

  • Operators of e-shops and online marketplaces are responsible for ensuring that the products available on their platforms meet security requirements. This includes reviewing documentation from suppliers and ensuring product compliance.

5. Duty to respond quickly

  • If a risk is detected, traders are obliged to quickly inform the supervisory authorities (e.g. the Slovak Trade Inspection) and withdraw dangerous products from the market.

6. Increased sanctions

  • Failure to comply with the GPSR may result in higher fines (up to 4% of the sales turnover realized within the EU), extraordinary costs for the withdrawal of products or a ban on their further sale.

7. Impact on Czech traders:

  • Micro and small businesses: Increased compliance and administration costs.

  • Big players: Obligation to invest in compliance processes, especially when importing and selling through online platforms.

Slovak traders will be monitored more by the Slovak Trade Inspection and will require documentation to ensure product safety. The regulation also promotes consumer rights, which can boost customer confidence, but places higher demands on businesses.

What exactly are you supposed to do?

  1. Complete the missing data: Use our Excel table to complete information about products and suppliers.

  2. Edit the product cards on the e-shop: All products on your e-shop must contain this information.

  3. Check the supplier: Make sure that products from your suppliers meet safety standards.

How can we help you with implementation?

  • We have prepared a clear table for you, in which you will find complete information about the brands we supply. Identification is carried out according to the prefix of the goods, which is indicated on each of our tax documents and on the order.

  • The Excel table contains an overview of all brands and products that we supply to the Slovak and Czech markets.

  • We will gradually add additional information to the product cards, they will be available in our e-shop at www.egodekor.cz

  •  Based on your request (sent list of goods in an Excel spreadsheet), we will add information about the country of origin of the products.

  • Support: If you are not sure how to complete the information, we will be happy to advise you by phone. number: +420 777 675 475, contact person: Mgr. Daniela Semecká, manager.

By following these rules, you will ensure that your business will comply with the new regulations and avoid penalties or problems during inspections.

If you have questions, we are here for you!

Despite these complications, we wish you a beautiful and relaxing Christmas.
